EMİR IŞIL (Emir Ishil) is a Vancouver-based video editor who has contributed to over 50 film, TV, and digital media projects. He holds a double major in Cinema & Media Studies and Economics from the University of Southern California, where his merit earned him the prestigious School of Cinematic Arts Goldman Sachs Scholarship Fund; as well as a Diploma in Television and Video Production from British Columbia Institute of Technology that solidified his skills in managing assets, colour consistency, and sound mixing.
This unique intersection of the humanities and finishing skills allows him to implement strategic solutions for production bottlenecks, combining his creative lens with strong instincts for pacing, and story structure.
Driven by a proactive approach to his career, Emir’s initiative has consistently unlocked unique industry opportunities. Starting out at Development at Sofia Vergara’s Production Company, he stepped up to edit demo reels for established actors like Cristian de la Fuente. His drive also led him to earn his first official credit as a stills photographer on the Turkish hit series As If, generating over 270K online engagements. Emir is highly proficient in industry-standard software, utilizing Avid Media Composer, alongside After Effects and AI workflows, such as Runway or Kling, to craft compelling narratives.
Emir’s production and post-production experience spans multiple formats and high-profile brands. He has facilitated cross-departmental communication as a Production Assistant for MJZ and DEPO on top-tier commercials for Coca-Cola, Comcast and AMD. He was exposed to AI workflows early on editing documentary deliverables at Tollin Productions for Showtime's The Comedy Store and UFC 1: Origins. Most recently, his editorial work includes driving engagement through high-volume game recaps for UBC Athletics, and cutting a Seed&Spark Staff Pick campaign video for Unidos ‘26 that successfully funded its goal in four days.
Beyond the editing bay, Emir is deeply passionate about fine art. Inspired by an early encounter with a Basquiat in Paris, he merges myths with animism and calligraphy. He maintains a dedicated acrylic and oil painting practice and was recently honored to have paintings featured in Camp exhibitions. Whether capturing photorealism through his camera lens, exploring the aesthetic textures of brushstrokes, or combining both with AI, he consistently pushes the boundaries of expression.
Today, Emir is eager to leverage his multifaceted expertise to bring bold, underrepresented visions to life. Outside of his professional work, you can often find him exploring the works of auteurs like Jean Renoir, or creating art with sustainable materials. He is always searching for the next creative endeavor to add to his global tapestry of projects and collaborations.
